Detector Response Nonlinearity

While the response of bands 1-4 is linear over the SOFIE dynamic range, bands 5-16 exhibit some response nonlinearity at high radiances.  This nonlinearity was calibrated in the laboratory using the small attenuator technique.  The measured response, NM (counts), is corrected by

NL = NM / fNL(NM)

where NL is the corrected response in counts, fNL(NM) is the nonlinear response term,

fNL(NM) = 1 - K NM

and K is the nonlinearity constant.  The results from three calibration sesions are summarized in the table below.  The baseline nonlinearity constants are from the October 2005 calibration, which covered the full dynamic range due to the absence of the CSM flight neutral density filter.
